The latest Rays news and notes:
- Sam Fuld is scheduled to undergo surgery on his injured right wrist today, which will sideline him for 4-5 months reports Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times. Jeff Salazar remains the front-runner to fill in for Fuld, but Brandon Guyer is still in the mix.
- The Rays tied their sixth game of spring training yesterday, finishing their Port Charlotte matchup against the Twins 6-6. The Rays got to be satisfied about yesterday's game, despite the score. All six runs allowed by the pitching were from minor leaguers, as David Price and J.P. Howell combined for five scoreless innings. Some notable offensive performances included Evan Longoria (2-3 with an RBI), Ben Zobrist (1-3 with an RBI double), Sean Rodriguez (2-3 with a home run), and Cody Rodgers (2-run homer in only at-bat). Click here for a full boxscore of yesterday's game. Carlos Pena—who went 0-5 with three strikeouts and four men left on base—continues to be the main offensive concern for the Rays right now. He has posted a .107 average for the entire spring with just one home run and two RBI. Hopefully, Pena will start turning it around like Longo is starting to.
- Next up for the Rays is their Grapefruit League finale at 1:05 ET in Fort Meyers. Jeremy Hellickson is scheduled to take the hill against the Minnesota Twins.
- The Rays' minor league affiliates announced their Opening Day rosters, check it out at RaysProspects.com.
